Abstract

735,433. Treating liquids with gases. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. April 28, 1953 [April 21, 1952; July 30, 1952], Nos. 9996/52 and 19213/52. Class 55 (2). Packing for columns for distillation, liquidliquid extraction, humidification &c. comprises a body as of ceramic or foraminous material with pockets apertured at their apex to allow medium coalescing in the pocket to redisperse. Forms of loose packing comprise six gauze pyramids or cones with their apices pointing inwards, or six gauze hemispheres 9 with apertures 10 interconnected by cross-piping 11. As a fixed or regular packing trays 20, 21 have pyramidal pockets 22 with apertures 23 discharge from which strikes points 24 of the tray above. Downcomers provided for the continuous phase may be dispensed with if the trays are of gauze.
