Abstract

735,053. Protective cut-out arrangements. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 14, 1953 [Aug. 22, 1952], No. 21141/52. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XL (c)] An electronic circuit, particularly for an overload protective arrangement, comprises a gridoperated gas discharge tube of the cold-cathode type to which a signal is applied to cause operation of the tube, the circuit then responding to effect de-ionization and re-operation of the tube. The signal is supplied from a current transformer 4, over a rectifier 3 to a resistance 7, the potential across which is applied to the grid 12 of the tube, which discharges when the potential reaches a certain value. This causes a coil 17 to open a contact 18 and disconnect a resistance 19 and to change over a contact 11 to connect a condenser 9, of a resistance capacitance circuit 8, 9 to the grid. A relay 6 is thereby energized to close its contact 10 and energize a coil 20, and maintain energization of relay 17. The movement of contact 16 by coil 20 is delayed so that de-ionization of the tube is complete before it makes its left-hand contact. If the P.D. across condenser 9 remains high, the tube discharges again, to energize a trip coil 21 and remove the H.T. supply 15 by means not shown. Specification 732,454 is referred to.
