Abstract

735,042. Moving display devices. ROTOSIGNS, Ltd. June 10, 1953 [June 11, 1952], No. 14715/52. Class 3 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] A moving advertising or display device comprises a frame 1 made of metal tubing which has a solenoid in one of its vertical limbs, the solenoid consisting of two oppositely wound coils 7, 8. The coils are connected to a D.C. supply through a thermally-operated, bimetallic, changeover switch so that they are connected to the supply alternately. The conductors 4-6 for the solenoid are concealed on a suspension cord 2 for the frame. Pivotably mounted on the frame on its centre line is a panel 9 or skeleton framework carrying display material and this has permanent magnets 11, 12 built into its two opposite vertical edges, the magnets being concealed by a binding 13. The magnets are arranged with their polarities oppositely directed so that when one is attracted by the solenoid the other is repelled, and thus as the polarity of the solenoid is changed by the switch, the panel swings through substantially 180 degrees. It is prevented from moving completely into the plane of the frame 1 by rubber rings 23 on the frame. In an alternative construction two solenoids and one magnet may be used.
