Abstract
734,964. Spray-producers. COLLARDIN, G. March 30, 1953 [March 29, 1952], No. 8647/53. Class 69 (3). A flame spray-gun includes a container 5 from which the spray material is fed to a passage 31e and sprayed from a nozzle cap 27 by a compressed air stream fed to the space between nozzle caps 27, 28. The material flow is controlled by a trigger-operated needle valve 32, and the spray stream is fed axially through a cover 24 which surrounds a tubular burner ring 25. The flow of air and material through the cover induces air into the rear of the cover, which air flows in the direction of the arrows. Fuel gas is supplied to a passage 15 and passes, under the control of a needle valve 36, to a conduit 1 which supplies the burner ring 25. A part of this gas supply is led to a pipe 9 via a valve 10, and the flame from this pipe heats the material in the container. Jackets 3, 6 arranged about the container includes ribs 6a which cause the combustion gases to flow upwardly in one half annular path and downwardly in the other. A baffle finally directs these hot gases towards the spray outlet. Compressed air is fed to the gun at 21 and, under the control of a three-way valve 19, may flow to the passage 33 and the nozzle caps via passages 16 and 14, and simultaneously a part thereof flows to the pipe 1. Alternatively compressed air is fed through a duct 17 and a part 17a to a pipe 2 leading to the interior of the cover. The latter includes a number of staggered baffles and the air is directed in zig-zag fashion around the cover interior before passing through a pipe 29 to the space between the nozzle caps. The cover may contain substances to influence the properties of the material sprayed; it may be cylindrical and hollow, or it may comprise a pipe coil 38, Fig. 4, surrounded by a wall 37. By causing the pipe turns to contact each other the wall 37 may be eliminated. In a further embodiment electric resistances are incorporated in the hollow cover, and the front part of the fuel gas pipe supplying the burner 25 is similarly heated. The rear end of the cover may be closed, and an inert gas supply pipe may open into the space within the inner periphery of the cover. Two spray guns as described may be mounted at an angle to each other so that their spray streams intersect; alternatively two spray nozzles may be mounted as stated and provided with a common cover and ring burner.
