Abstract

734,808. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. March 16, 1954 [March 31, 1953], No. 8846/53. Addition to 724,030. Classes 144 (1) and 144 (2). In a tubular cycle tyre as described in the parent Specification the water resistant sidewall coating of elastic polymeric material comprises plasticized polyvinyl ester resin such as polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate. The plasticizer may be an organic ester such as tricresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate or dioctyl phthalate and the polyvinyl ester resin, together with a plasticizer and an organic dye or insoluble pigment may be dissolved in a rubber insoluble ketonic solvent such as acetone or diethyl ketone. The solution may be brushed, sprayed or rolled on the tyre side walls. The Specification gives examples of various solutions stating the proportions of the mix.
