Abstract
734,639. Anµsthetic apparatus. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET GASACCUMULATOR. June 30, 1953 [July 1, 1952], No. 18106/53. Class 81 (2). Narcosis apparatus comprises an inhalation tube, an exhalation tube and first and second anaesthetic supply tubes, all the tubes communicating through a valve chamber under the control of a common selector valve whereby alternative preselected connections between the tubes may be made for operation of the apparatus under different closed or open cycle systems. The inhalation tube and first anaesthetic supply tube are in permanent communication through the selector , valve, communication of the exhalation tube and second anµsthetic supply tube with the chamber being selective. The valve casing 1 is provided with a leaf spring 2 which contacts the wall of casing 1 and is rotatable on an axle 4, an aperture 3 being provided in the leaf spring 2. Three branches 6, 7, 8 of an exhalation tube 22, one anaesthetic tube 9 and a breathing bag 11 are connected with the casing 1 so that the leaf spring 2 may be rotated to block them or to allow passage from one of them through the aperture 3 to the interior of the casing 1. The other anaesthetic tube 13 and the inhalation tube 15 are connected directly with the interior of the casing 1 through apertures 12, 14 respectively. Non- return valves 18, 19 are provided in the exhalation tube 22 and inhalation tube 15 respectively, a spring-loaded valve 20 being also included in the exhalation tube 22. Two branches 7, 8 of the exhalation tube 22 are provided with carbon dioxide filters 16, 17. In one position of the leaf spring 2 the inhalation and exhalation tubes 15, 22 are connected to a face mask 21, a closed circuit being provided by any one of the branches of the exhalation tube 22 and the valve casing 1, anµsthetic being supplied through the tube 13. In another arrangement in which the apparatus operates on a " to and fro " closed system (not shown) anµsthetic is supplied from tube 13 to a mask and additional breathing bag provided with a carbon dioxide filter which is connected with the inhalation tube 15, all the other tubes connected with the valve casing being blocked by the leaf spring 2. In a third arrangement (not shown) anaesthetics are supplied to a mask from both tubes 9 and 13, the exhalation tubes 6, 7, 8 being blocked by the leaf spring 2 and being disconnected from the mask. Exhalation to the atmosphere takes place through a valve adjacent the mask.
