Abstract
734,279. Regulating ; rotary distributing valves. USTAV MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL, BOTTGER, J., and KOPLIK, O. June 13, 1952. No. 14965/52. Class 7(6). In a fuel injection system for multi-cylinder internal combustion engines comprising a fuel pump and a rotating distributer for metering the fuel to be supplied through pressure pipes to the individual injection nozzles of the engine, the substantially cylindrical distributer casing is provided with a central axially extending bore containing a rotating distributer shaft and with a number of discharge ports arranged in each of at least two planes at right angles to the distributers rotary axis which discharge ports are in communication through radially extending channels with the central bore are adapted to be connected to pressure pipes which lead to the engine cylinders and are arranged in the range of only one half of the circumference of the distributer casing, and the control grooves of the distributing shaft which control the fuel supply to the discharge ports in the different planes are angularly displaced with respect to one another. Fuel from a pump (not shown) enters by an inlet port 3 and is distributed to outlet connections 10, 10<SP>1</SP> by means of a rotary distributer shaft 2. The connections 10 10<SP>1</SP> as indicated by Fig. 2 are not evenly distributed around the distributer casing but arranged to extend approximately half way round the casing. This avoids sharp bends in the pipes leading to the injectors and thus helps to give a more even distribution of fuel. The distributer shaft is axially adjustable to vary the quantity of fuel supplied. The shaft has distributer grooves 8,81. In a modification further grooves are provided in the shaft which register with outlet ports after the distributer grooves 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and connect these ports to a discharge passage thus relieving the pressure in the pipes leading to and preventing dribbling of the injectors. The arrangement of the discharge ports at two or more levels in the range of one half of the circumference of the distributer casing with a corresponding displaced arrangement of the control grooves can be applied for instance to distributer constructions which work without means for varying the time of commencement or of termination of the injection interval. A return connection 9 is provided by which surplus fuel may escape through a valve controlled return pipe. The inlet for fuel under pressure into and the return connection or connections 9 for the excess fuel from the distributer may be arranged at that half of the distributer casing which is without discharge ports leading to the injection nozzles. Specification 733,552 is referred to.
