Abstract
732,235. Electron-beam apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 29, 1952 [May 2, 1951], No. 10759/52. Class 39 (1). The deflecting grid of an electron-beam tube is positioned between the accelerating electrode and one or more collecting electrodes, the electron beam approaching at an angle to the lines of force between the grid and the collecting electrode and being deflected through an angle varying with the potential on the deflecting grid. The grid 3 and collecting electrode 2 may be in parallel or inclined planes and they may be curved. The grid 3 in Fig. 2 is at right angles to the beam 5 and the lines of force 4 are curved. With a beam across the grid the pitch of the grid wires is varied to make the angles subtended by the grid spacings equal; or the grid is inclined to the beam direction and the collecting electrode. In a push-pull amplifier, Fig. 6, the grid 29 comprises only two wires behind which are two parts 30, 31 of the collecting electrode to which the beam is alternately directed when A.C. voltage is supplied from a transformer 32. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), a multiple collecting system is provided with a divergent beam and with one voltage applied to the grid all the beams impinge on the same group of collecting electrodes. Oscillations may be produced by coupling the output electrodes and the grid. Specifications 732,234 and 732,236 are referred to.
