732,217. Microtomes. LKB-PRODUKTER FABRIKSAKTIEBOLAG. Nov. 2, 1953 [Nov. 6, 1952], No. 30238/53. Class 97 (1). In a rotary microtome having an adjustable stationary knife 38, the knife is secured so that its edge is bent in a curve and the surface of the object 2 which describes a circular path passes the knife in a tangent plane to the curve. Preferably, object-holder 4 is moved forward by heating coil 14. A section 20 of heat-insulating material, e.g. " Plexiglass " (Registered Trade Mark) prevents the bearing disc 22 from becoming heated and jamming the slide bearing 32. Advantageously a groove is provided in the disc 22 so that it can be driven by a cone belt 34. Members 26, 28. secure the disc 24 against which the feeding bar expands, and the sliced sections which may be as thin as 70 A.U. are collected in a container 44. The knife 38 is mounted so that it can be fixed at any inclination about the vertical and a horizontal axis and it can be moved towards and away from the object by screw 60.
