[Also in Group IX] A gearing unit for reciprocating a rotating roller in a textile machine comprises cylindrical cam mechanism driven by epicyclic reduction gearing. The roller shaft 1 passes through a drum 21 with a cam groove 27 cut in its outer face for engagement with a cam bowl 25 fixed to the casing 9 of the unit so as to cause the drum 21 to slide axially as it rotates, taking with it the shaft 1. Rotation of the drum 21 is derived from the shaft 1 through a pinion 3 driving a pinion 5 that carries one or more planet pinions 11 which mesh with a sun pinion 15 fixed to a stationary stud 7 and a rotatable pinion 17 mounted on the same stud 7 and provided with a different number of teeth to the sun pinion 15 for driving a pinion 19 fixed to the cam drum 21.
