Abstract
731,645. Knurling. BOYER, P. R. July 16, 1953 [Sept. 30, 1952], No. 19798/53. Class 83 (4). A tool for knurling, machining, &c. the internal surface of a bore comprises a body 1 carrying radially slidable tool-carrying jaws 4, Fig. 1, having a plurality of spaced-apart mountings for the tools and urged radially outwards by an axially movable member 9 having a tapered head. The jaws 4 have a plurality of mounting holes 5 for pins 6 carrying the knurling wheels 8. The member 9 is freely rotatable on a thrust bearing (not shown) on the end of a screw shaft 10 which is set by a handwheel 14 and locked by a nut 18. The body 1 has recesses for handles 19 but may be mounted on a lathe by means of a stirrup. The screw shaft 10 may be replaced by hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical thrust means.
