731,598. Moulding corrugated fibro-cement slabs. MAGNANI, A. Sept. 6, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No: 21107/51. Class 87 (2). A plastic slab 26, which may be formed as described in Specification 731,597, [Group VIII], is fed by a belt 29 on to a corrugated mould on a carriage 31. The slab is carried to a press 32 having a corrugated pressing plunger which is moved down to corrugate the slab. Flexible, e.g. rubber, linings 34, 34', Fig. 3, are placed between the corrugating elements 33, 33<1> and the slab. These linings tend to prevent cracks in the slabs by holding the material together at the convex part of the corrugations. To assist in this action strips of canvas 36, Fig. 6, may be applied to linings on their inner surfaces at the concave parts of the corrugations and on their outer surfaces at the convex portions. The linings may be held in position by suction applied through holes 59 in the elements 33, 33<1>. As the upper elements are lowered, motors 39 rotate screw-threaded shafts 38, engaging nuts 40, to bring the elements 33, 331 towards each other in a horizontal plane. After moulding, the carriage is moved beneath a suction hoist 49 which lifts the slab, moves along transverse rails, and then deposits the slab on another carriage (see Fig. 2, not shown). A further carriage is provided adjacent to this latter carriage for supplying sheet metal corrugated matrices which are positioned between the moulded corrugated sheets. During removal of the slab the suction is cut off and compressed air may be supplied through the holes 39.
