Abstract
The invention comprises cationic detergent surface-active agents with bactericidal properties having the formula <FORM:0730394/IV (b)/1> wherein A - is the radical of a strong acid, e.g. a hydrohalogenic, sulphuric or nitric acid, and R is an alkyl radical with a straight-chain of 8 to 16 carbon atoms; and to a process for preparing the salts when R is any alkyl radical by reacting the alkyl ether of 2,4-diaminophenol or its salt with cyanamide in hot solution, the reaction being completed by boiling. Suitable solvents are ethyl alcohol (for the lower alkyl ethers), and mixtures of ethyl acetate, water and methyl alcohol. Examples describe the preparation of the dihydrochlorides of the n-propyl-, n-butyl-, lauryl-, and cetyl-ethers of 2,4-diguanidine-phenol.
