A folding bed comprises longitudinal side members 10 interfitting with the inturned ends 12 of end members 11 and two U- shaped legs 15 pivoted on each side member by sockets 16 so that the legs can be folded inwards to lie in the plane of the side members, means being provided for retaining the legs in extended position. The legs are spread apart by detachable X-frames 19, the ends of which take into sockets 18 in the legs. Straps 22 passing through rings 21 on the legs retain them in engagement with the X-frames. A head frame 14 is hinged to the inturned parts 12. A canvas or like sheet 23 has peripheral eyelets 24 and is laced to the members 10, 11. As shown in Fig. 2, the sheet 23 is laced only to the end members 11 and has sleeves 25 slipping over side members 10, the sockets 16 being accommodated in gaps 26. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the legs 15 are welded to the side members 10 which are rotatably mounted for folding on the inturned parts 12 and have a longitudinal slot taking an edge beading on the sheet 23. In this modification, each X-frame member 19 is fixed at one end by a universal joint to a leg and at the other end is detachably connected as shown in Fig. 5 to the other leg. The member 19 contains a plunger 34 loaded by a spring 33 and having an offset nose 35. A pin member 38 on the leg is engaged between the nose 35 and a cutaway extension of the member 19.
