Abstract

In a process for forming a protective coating on metal as in the parent Specification, the coated metal is maintained at a temperature below 680 DEG F. until the pyrogenic polymer has been formed, and the carbonization step is carried out at a temperature in excess of 680 DEG F., e.g. between 800 DEG F. and 900 DEG F.
