Abstract

727,478. Coating webs. ROWLANDS, T., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Jan. 16, 1953 [Feb. 6, 1952], No. 3138/52. Class 140. The amount of liquid, e.g. adhesive, applied to a web 1 by a roller 5 is regulated by a contacting, grooved roller 7 driven at adjustable speed. The roller 5 may dip into the liquid in a trough 6, and the roller 7 may be driven by contact with a roller 10 on which it rests. Roller 10 is driven from roller 5 by a variable-speed pulley and belt drive. Roller 7, which may be plain at its ends and helically grooved in the middle, may consist of a number of short sections loose on a shaft and pressed endwise into engagement by end-stops 11. The apparatus may form part of a machine for making corrugated paper board in which a web 1 of paper or board is passed between co-operating corrugated rollers 2, 3, coated on the crowns of the corrugations with adhesive applied by the roll 5 and secured to a plain web 4 pressed on by roll R.
