Abstract
727,308. Friction clutches. LAMBERT BRAKE CORPORATION. Nov. 29, 1951, No. 29668/53. Divided out of 727,240. Class 80 (2) [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXIV]. A friction clutch, which may be used as a brake, comprises driving and driven members 25, 22 in a sealed housing 27, friction discs 30, 31, a presser plate 42, a backing plate 69 fast on the driven shaft 18, springs 72a between the two plates to engage 'the friction discs and camming balls 78 between the two plates to increase the clutch engaging force on slip between the driving and driven members. Seals 32, 44, 46 are provided between the parts so that the clutch can be immersed in oil and yet keep dry. The presser plate 42 is connected by bolts 50 to a throw-out plate 47 having an annular flange 52 engaged by a collar 53 pivoted at 54, 54a, Fig. 3, to a yoke 55 pivoted in its turn at 56, 56a to a supporting member; the yoke is connected through links &c. 60 &c. to pedal operating means. The backing plate 69 is adjustably positioned to take up wear in the clutch by a locking nut 71. Separate operating means 82, 86 are provided for a positive clutch, not described, in an agricultural tractor to which the invention is applied.
