Abstract

727,159. Entrance stairs for aircraft. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., BRUMBY, H., and WARBURTON, D. S. May 19, 1953 [May 21, 1952], No. 12875/52. Class 4. An aircraft having a passenger compartment above a freight compartment closed off by a pair of clam-shell doors, is provided with an internal stairway giving access to the passenger compartment and constructed part in one and the remainder in the other of the clam-shell doors. The aircraft comprises a fuselage 6 containing a freight compartment closed at the rear by a pair of clam-shell doors 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>2</SP> and a tail boom 8 comprising a passenger compartment. The door 71 carries internally a landing 10 from which steps 11 rise as far as the division between the doors to the level of a further landing 16 mounted internally on the door 7<SP>2</SP>. Steps 17 lead from the landing 16 to the floor of the passenger compartment in the boom 8 which is entered through a hatch 18. Access to the landing 10 is through entrance 12 in the wall of door 71, provided with a downwardly hinged door 13 formed on its inner face with steps 14. When passengers, instead of freight are accommodated in the fuselage 6 the door 7<SP>1</SP> carries an additional stairway unit comprising a landing 36 and stairs 37 leading to a lower deck and stairs 38 leading to an upper deck. An entrance 42 similar to the entrance 12 is provided. Toilet compartments may be mounted on the door 72 below the stairs 17 and certain stairs may be enclosed.
