A loose leaf binding device comprises a base plate 1, adapted to be fixed to a back cover, to which is hingedly connected close to the edge of the back cover a rocking part 8 having two tubular arms 9 extending parallel to one another, on which the leaves are mounted, and a U- shaped rod 6 slidable in guides 3, 4 on the base plate 1 and having its limbs bent upwards and rearwards into alignment with the tubular arms 9 in the downwardly rocked position, so that the free ends 6<SP>1</SP> of the bent rod 6 can be slid into and out of the tubular arms, the base plate 1 of the device being stamped out of sheet metal or other suitable material and the guides 3, 4 for the limbs of the U-shaped rod 6 being formed by bending the lateral edges of the base plate. The guides 3, 4 are also provided with cut-in portions 5 which act as stops to locate the U-shaped rod 6 with its ends 6<SP>1</SP> just clear of the tubular arms 9. The base plate 1 has holes 2 for securing it to the cover and lugs 7 for mounting the rocking part 8. The inner ends of the tubular arms 9 are cut away at 10 so that the rod ends 6<SP>1</SP> must be moved towards each other slightly to release the arms 9 for pivoting, so that accidental release of leaves in the binder is prevented.
