Abstract
726,635. Flexible couplings. SOC. ANON, A. SAURER. Sept 9, 1953 [Nov. 13, 1952], No. 24932/53. Class 80 (2). A flexible coupling between shaft ends 2, 13 comprises two or more rollers 6 carried by a flange 1 on shaft 2 and each bearing on a transversely-arranged multi-leaf spring 21, the springs being held at both ends in flared recesses of members 14 secured in a casing 12 rigid with the shaft 13. Packing 28 is arranged between the flange 1 and a cover 25 secured to the casing 12. Where two rollers and springs are provided, as shown, the springs 21 are parallel to each other and come into contact at maximum bending, so as to support each other. Where three or more rollers and springs are provided, the springs form a triangle or polygon and contact with a cylindrical projection on one shaft end at maximum bending. The rollers may be mounted on eccentric pins which may be turned, after assembly, to pre-load the springs.
