Abstract
In a controlled atmosphere carburizing furnace, a carburizing agent, e.g. fusel oil, dipentane, butane, methane, or natural gas is fed at a metered rate to the sealed electrically-heated furnace interior containing the work, vaporized, if liquid, on a heated plate, and the resulting gas (which may be cracked to simpler compounds at the furnace temperature) is circulated round the heated work by a fan.
