A hand bag comprises a main jointed mouth frame 3, 4, to which the external covering is secured and an inner pocket having the front and back edges fixedly located with respect to the main frame and a pair of rigid strips 12 attached to each side edge so that when the bag is opened the pocket is also opened, the strips of each pair being brought towards a position of alignment, and when the bag is closed, the strips of each pair are approached to each other by turning about a location along the edge to which they are fixed and between the two strips of each pair, the side edges of the pocket being controlled and prevented from wedging in the main frame. The bag covering is secured between the flanges of the top and side portions 3, 4 of the main frame and the pocket is secured to a secondary frame formed in two similar halves mutually pivoted at 13 and having a cross rod 11 secured in apertures 14 in the side portions 4 of the main frame and connected to channel strip side arms 12 in which the side edges of the pocket are secured.
