Abstract
725,668. Dielectric heating. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Jan. 22, 1953 [Dec. 3, 1952], No. 1869/53. Class 39 (3). [Also in Group XIII] In the drying of annular wound packages of filamentary material by dielectric heating the packages 30 having covers to maintain a vapour blanket around the external layers and prevent uneven shrinkage, are carried on support assemblies 7 of a conveyer 6 between woven metallic screen electrodes 20, connected to a radio frequency oscillator 19 of which the voltage of the field may vary from 3,000 to 25,000 volts and the frequency range from 1 to 50 or more megacycles. The packages are supported on perforated platforms 13 supported by posts 14, the platforms and posts being of a low loss synthetic resin such as a copolymer of styrene and divinylbenzene and the perforations allowing correction currents. To obtain an approximately constant potential along the electrodes a shorting stub 21b is provided. The assemblies 7 have gears 17 which engage a rack 18 to rotate the supports and packages during drying.
