The labyrinth gland forming the subjectmatter of the parent Specification is modified by having the separating members 8 arranged in end-to-end abutting relation and formed with recesses in which are frictionally held the laterally free labyrinth elements 3 having a minimum clearance 4 with the shaft 1. The separating members 8, held between the end covers 6, 7 of the gland housing, are each formed with a central recess axially enlarged at its outer portion 10.
