724,643. Seats. LORENZ, A. Oct. 20, 1953, No. 28976/53. Class 52 (2). An adjustable reclining chair or the like, having a structure including a seat and a back rest rockably mounted on a support, is provided with a controlling bar pivoted at one end to a downward extension of the back rest and at the other end to a controlling arm pivoted to a guiding element swingably mounted on the support and is also provided with means interposed between said controlling arm and a leg rest swingably mounted on the front portion of the seat for effecting movements of the said leg rest in co-ordination with said controlling arm. As shown, the back rest 32 and seat 38 are, at each side, pivoted to the support 20 at 34 and 40 respectively and are also connected by a top link 48 forming an arm rest and by' a front link 42. A guiding link 56 is pivoted to the support at 58 and is pivotally connected to the downward extension 36 of the back rest by a connecting link 60. Pivotally connected to the guiding link 56 is a controlling arm 76 intermediately pivotally connected by a controlling bar 78 to the back rest extension 36. Swingably pivoted to the front of the seat 38 at 68 is a leg rest 66 which is connected also to the controlling arm 76 by a controlling link 70. The controlling mechanism 36, 78, 76, 70 guided by the guiding link 56 swings in a circular path when the seat and back rest are moved to inclined positions so that in fully inclined position the leg rest, seat, and back rest occupy the positions denoted by the reference numerals 66<SP>1</SP>, 38<SP>1</SP> and 32<SP>1</SP> respectively. The top link 48 is further guided by a slide bearing 52 pivoted to the support at 54. Various modifications are described including the provision of a second controlling link connected to the first controlling link 70 and adapted to abut the leg rest for the latter's movement, the leg rest being pivoted freely to the seat, a spring being provided to urge the leg rest into abutment with the second controlling link. A locking arrangement may be provided for securing the leg rest in a desired position with relation to the seat.
