Abstract

723,745. Seed-sower wheels. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. May 26, 1952. [Oct. 11, 1951] No. 13255/52. Class 6 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] A self-cleaning soil-packing tyre for a planter wheel of a seed-laying agricultural machine has an inwardly shallow-arched base portion 7 to. seat on a correspondingly shaped rim of the planter wheel and an outwardlv shallow-arched tread portion 6. As shown, the planter wheel 1 is provided, with two spaced rim portions 4 downwardly inclined towards each other between which lies a rib 8 formed on the exterior of the shallowarched base of the tyre. The tyre is stretched on to the wheel and remains under tension. In use, as the tread meets the soil it is deflected inwardly to a concave shape so packing the soil but on receding therefrom it resumes its original outwardly shallowarched shape and so ejects any adhering soil. The tyre is of substantial thickness and is uninflated or only inflated to a small extent a vent may be provided.
