Abstract

723,000. Flow-meters. ELECTROFLO METERS CO., Ltd., and ENGEL, F. V. A. E. Nov. 21, 1952 [Aug. 21, 1951], No. 19658/51. Class 69 (1). A constricting element or venturi tube for fluid flow measurement within a conduit has an entrance section adapted to project freely into the conduit on the upstream side and is formed with an annular recess open towards the direction of flow, the exterior of the entrance section, the recess and the interior of the conduit together forming a chamber communicating with the high-pressure tapping of the device. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the entrance section 2 of a constricting element 1 projects into the upstream part of a conduit 5 and the annular gap 9, between the entrance section and the interior of the conduit, and a recess 10 together form a chamber which communicates with the high-pressure tapping 7 via a passage 11. At the downstream side of the element, the chamber formed by the gap 13 and the recess 12 communicates with the lowpressure tapping 8 via a passage 14. The end part of the conduit 5 may be flared so that the entrance diameter of the element can be equal to or larger than the diameter of the conduit. With the venturi tube 1, Fig. 3, the annular gap 9 is very small and spaced slots 17 are formed in the rim of the entrance section. In either form the flange 4 may be separate from the nozzle and the nozzle itself may be made in two separate parts.
