Abstract

722,850. Boxes. FISKE, S. H. Aug. 13, 1953 [Aug. 14, 1952 ; Feb. 3, 1953], Nos. 20481/52 and 3025/53. Class 18. A cardboard or like box for chicks &c. has ventilation passages at the corners communicating with outside air through apertures each formed in two adjacent walls at a lower box corner. In one embodiment, portions 5 are secured to adjacent walls 9 and their extensions 10 to form passages 14, the cutting of the portions 5 from the blank providing apertures 13 at the box corners. A lid has a neck 19 fitting the box and an outwardly sloping portion 22 providing an air passage 25 between itself and the box walls. Gaps 26 permit exit of air to the passage 25. The box bottom is maintained clear of a supporting surface by a flange 8. In-another embodiment (not shown), flaps on the parts 5 tuck behind separate flat members, secured one to each side wall, to maintain the box erect, but enabling it to be collapsed flat for storage &c. A box may have additionally a central partition formed of a folded strip, the ends of which diverge to form with the walls to which they are secured, air passages, the walls being apertured to give access to air.
