Abstract
722,630. Two-stroke engines; valves. RASMUSSEN, J. S. July 25, 1952 [Feb. 23, 1952], No. 18843/52. Classes 7 (2) and 7 (6). The transfer passage 35 of a two-stroke crankcase compression engine having two inlet ports 36, 37, substantially opposite one another at the same level in the cylinder wall is controlled by a rotary disc valve 29 in the crankcase coaxial with and connected to the crankshaft, which valve, apart from the piston, is the sole means controlling communication between the crankcase and the cylinder. The disc valve 29 has depressions on opposite sides thereof connected with radial passages such as 33 and is driven from the crank-pin by a pin 39, Fig. 3, sealed in a hole 38 in the valve disc by a resilient ring 40. Combustible mixture is drawn into the crankcase through the radial passages when the appropriate depression engages the inlet passage 34 connected to a carburetter, and is forced into the transfer passage 35 through the passages 33 when the latter register therewith. In a modification the fly-wheel 27 forms the disc valve.
