Abstract
722,123. Stripping unwanted material from cut blanks. WALKER (ENFIELD), Ltd., and WALKER, W. E. July 15, 1953 [April 28, 1952], No. 10648/52. Class 31 (1). A machine for stripping unwanted material from cardboard and like blanks 21, Fig. 2, which have previously been cut and creased comprises a pair of co-operating rollers 12, 13 between which the blanks are fed and means adapted to be secured to the roller 12 for holding in any selected position, pins 20 for piercing the unwanted material 22, the roller 13 having a surface of wire brush 14 or sponge rubber which is sufficiently stiff to ensure that the material is gripped between and drawn through the rollers but is penetratable by the pins at any desired point. The pins are held in any selected position on the roller 12 by means of a perforated metal sheet tympan 15 the ends of which together with backing layers are secured to the walls of a sector 16 cut out of the roller 12. The unwanted material 22 is stripped from the pins by means of a comb 24. The leading edge of the wanted material 23 is urged outwardly from the roller 12 as it emerges from the bite of the rollers by means of a plurality of plungers 31 which are selectively located in axially-spaced radial slots 29, Fig. 3, in the roller 12 which are aligned with screw-threaded holes 30 in a bar 26 the ends of which are provided with cam rollers 27 travelling in stationary cam tracks 28, the arrangement being such that as the plungers pass under the bite of the rollers, they are projected outwardly to engage the wanted parts of the blank so as to ensure that the leading edge is seized by rollers 35. The cam tracks then cause the plungers 31 to retract before they reach the comb 24. Instead of the plungers, sponge rubber pads or spring fingers may be used.
