Abstract
721,427. Handling coke oven doors. KOPPERS GES., H. Dec. 4, 1952, [Dec. 29, 1951.] No. 30812/52. Class 55 (1). A door handling mechanism for withdrawing and swinging to one side of the door 1 of a horizontal coke oven 2 has a frame 6 incorporating an inclined track 5, a guide device 3 having rollers 4 engaging the track and to which is secured a carrier 7 provided with door-lifting claws 9 being movable along the track towards or away from the oven, the movement being effected by admission of compressed air to one side or the other of a piston in a cylinder 10, the piston rod 11 being connected to the device 3 at 14 by means of link 12, lever 15 and arm 25. To allow the withdrawn door to be swung to one side, the carrier 7 is secured to a rotatable shaft 22 positioned vertically in the device 3 and connected by arm 20, link 19 and lever 18 to the piston rod 17 of a second compressed air cylinder 16. Admission of air to this cylinder causes the door to swing through an arc of about 90 degrees, so that it may be cleaned or repaired. In an alternative arrangement the driving force to swing the carrier is supplied by a semi-rotary pneumatic pressure motor. The mechanism is especially suitable for use in the door handling apparatus described in Specification 687,058.
