Abstract

A dialkyl formamide having between 3 and 18 carbon atoms in the molecule is added to a mixture of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline boiling range and having a 50 per cent distillation point below 310 DEG F., in an amount from 0.05 to 1.0 per cent by volume, based on the volume of the hydrocarbons. The resulting fuel composition does not cause stalling in automobile engines under conditions of low temperature and high relative humidity. Specific additives are dimethyl formamide and diethyl formamide. In the example the operation of an engine on an aviation grade fuel with and without the addition of 0.25 volume per cent. of dimethyl formamide is described. Specification 423,938 is referred to.
