720,755. Grilling &c. apparatus. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1953, No. 5295/53. Class 28 (1). A waffle iron with upper and lower grids 16, 13 hinged together is convertible either into a grill by placing a sheet 39 Fig. 4 of metal foil preferably of aluminium over the lower grid, or into' a sandwich toaster by covering both grids with a metal foil sheet. Such sheets preferably have a thickness of 0.0035 inch but it may vary from 0.01 to 0.001 inches. A corner notch 41 in the sheets facilitates removal of the sheets from the grids. The upper sheet 40 is prevented from falling out when being lowered on a sandwich by a clip 48 in which a flange 51, Fig. 3, on movable spring fingers actually engages the sheet 40. A thermostat knob 32 with a luminous dial 33 is provided. The hinges 19 are designed to allow the grids to close for waffles or be spaced apart for grilling or toasting.
