Abstract

718,253. Typewriters. PAILLARD SOC. ANON. Dec. 16, 1952 [Feb. 27, 1952], No. 31826/62. Class 100 (4). Platen-roller couplings.-The coupling between a line-spacing ratchet wheel 12 and the platen 5 comprises a clutch, one part 11 of which is integral with the wheel 12 and is slidably mounted on a hollow shaft 2 fixedly carrying the other part 10 of the clutch, a turning knob 1, and a boss 8 for angular attachment of the platen 5. To disable the clutch the part 11 is moved axially against a spring 13 by flexible blades 20, or alternatively by a pin passing through a rod 15 axially operable by a knob 16; the rod 15 extends at 17 to form a central bearing for the platen 5. A semi-circular flange 6 attached to the boss 8 forms the angular attachment. In a modification the rod 15 is formed in two parts rotatable and slidable relative to one another to prevent friction between the end 17 of the rod 15 and the bore 18 of the platen from hindering the operation of the clutch. The platen may also be secured directly to the shaft 2.
