Abstract

718,139. Turbine and compressor rotors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. March 25, 1953 [April 2, 1952], No. 8469/52. Class 110(3) A bladed rotor for axial-flow compressors or turbines comprises at least one sheet metal rotor disc, and a row of blades formed of lengths of bar material of appropriate aerofoil cross-section mounted at the periphery thereof each blade being secured at its root end to a bracket which is itself secured to the rotor disc. Each rotor element in the embodiment shown comprises two discs la, 1b formed with radial slots at the periphery. The blades 3 have two channel-section brackets 4a, 4b secured by rivets or by welding or brazing at the root end, and the sides 4b of the brackets are secured by rivets to the rotor discs, the root portions of the blades entering the radial slots in the rotor discs. The surface of the rotor between adjacent blades in a row is completed by platforms 5 having lugs 5a riveted to the rotor discs. The surface of the rotor between blade rows is formed by sheet metal spacer rings 6. The rotor discs are mounted on tubes 9 carrying tubular distance pieces 10 between the rotor discs. The blade platforms and spacer rings could be omitted and the rotor surface formed by a single sheet metal cylinder enveloping the rotor discs and formed with holes through which the blades project.
