Abstract

717,982. Scoop arm machines. EIMCO CORPORATION. May 21, 1952 [June 7, 1951], No. 12841/52. Class 68(1) [Also in Group XXX] A swinging sector shovel of the kind in which the winch drums which effect rocking movement of the shovel supporting sectors are driven from a power take off shaft on the tractor through a clutch mechanism having a driven element which can be braked, and a control lever which, selectively, engages the clutch elements and disengages the brake, and disengages the clutch elements and applies the brake is characterized in that an addition control member disengages the clutch elements when actuated by the shovel in its elevated dumping position. The control lever 200 is secured to a spindle 202 which carries a pair of clevis members 218, 220 operatively connected through linkages with the brake band 166 and clutch operating levers 226 respectively; the arrangement being such that when the band 166 is tightened the levers 226 are moved to a position where they disengage the clutch (not shown) and vice versa. The linkage connecting clevis 220 with levers 226 comprises a bell crank 224 pivoted at 542 to a link 238 in turn connected to a lever 236 which operates a rock shaft 228 keyed to levers 226. The bell crank 224 is also pivoted at 543 to a rod 256 which is normally stationary and so does not affect the operation of the clutch through lever 200, but which is adapted to break the toggle connection between the bell crank and link 238 at 542 and so disengage the clutch, when it is moved linearly by a linkage connected with a movable abutment bar (not shown) which engages the bucket at the end of its lifting movement. This linkage (not shown) which is connected to the rod 256 through a bell crank 262 and rod 266, has a spring which tends to maintain the abutment bar and rod 256 in unoperated positions and so causes the bucket to oscillate when in its raised position with the lever 200 in its clutch engaged position, so discharging material adhering to the bucket. A switch 294 co-operating with a member 296 on the upper lever 226, and in circuit with the tractor starter motor ignition system, prevents this motor from starting if the clutch is engaged. A toothed sector 206 co-operates with a pawl 212 to retain lever 200 in its brake operated position. The complete shovel mechanism is made as a unit which is quickly detachable from the tractor.
