Class 130 [Also in Group VII] A cigarette-making device comprises a cylindrical body 1 with a closable side opening 2, through which it can be filled with tobacco, and a part-cylindrical blade 15, Fig. 2, fitting within the interior of the body and rotatable therein for trimming the tobacco and rolling a cigarette paper therearound, the blade being withdrawable longitudinally from the body and from the formed cigarette therein. The blade 15, carried by a knurled rotating knob 21 engaging the end 23 of the body, fits within arcuate slots 13, 14, Fig. 3, in freely rotatable members 8, 9, forming the ends of the tobacco compartment, the members 8, 9, being located against shoulders in the body 1 or, as shown, against bushes 10, 11. The slot 2 is closed by a hinged cover 3 which is positioned by stops 6 to leave a small gap 7, Fig. 5, in the closed position for passage of a cigarette paper. The member 9 is provided with a spring-pressed ball 18 which engages a detent 17, Fig. 2, in the blade 15 and presses the blade against the body 1. A second detent device may be provided in the part 20 of the blade to prevent accidental dropping out of the blade. In operation, the blade 15 is positioned at the bottom of the trough 1 and the latter filled with tobacco. The cover 3 is then closed, Fig. 5, and the blade 15 rotated to trim and mould the tobacco into shape, after which with the blade 15 in its uppermost position the cover 3 is raised and the end of a cigarette paper 28, Fig. 6, inserted between the blade 15 and the body 1. The cover 3 is again closed and rotation of the blade 15 rolls the paper around the tobacco, the gummed end having been moistened. The blade 15 is then withdrawn endwise, leaving the completed cigarette in the body 1. The rounded butt 4 of the hinge of the cover 3 may be shaped and roughened to assist in rolling the completed cigarette out of the compartment 1 as the cover 3 is opened, and a pocket clip 24 may be provided. In a modification, Fig. 8, the free end of the blade 15 moves in an annular gap 30 formed between the body 1 and a head 31 formed on a plug member 32. A hole 33 allows tobacco dust to escape. The device may be made of metal, thermoplastic, or wood.
