Abstract

716,466. Moulding inflatable rubber articles. VULCO CHEMICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 18, 1952, No. 20727/52. Class 87 (2) Hollow, inflatable rubber articles are made in a sectional cavity mould (not shown) of porous material e.g. plaster of Paris, having a self-sealing insert 1 of, e.g. rubber supported near the mould wall by means of a hollow needle 4 extending through the mould wall into the cavity. A desired quantity of an aqueous dispersion of rubber is fed to the mould which is thereupon rotated about a number of different axes to effect deposition of the rubber 5 on the walls of the mould. After the formed article has been removed from the mould it is dried, vulcanized and inflated by means of the needle which is' then withdrawn. During moulding the outer end of the needle communicates with the atmosphere and the inner end lies near the centre of the moulded article.
