716,201. Discharge lamps; luminescent materials. LOEWE OPTA AKT.-GES. Nov. 16, 1951 [Nov. 17, 1950], No. 27001/51. Addition to 701,589. Class 39(1) A mercury vapour discharge tube 1 as claimed in the parent Specification contains one or more transparent or translucent plates 4 each having its rear surface coated with fluorescent material, for example zinc sulphide, forming or outlining signs or characters, the discharge between the electrodes 2 and 3 taking place behind the plates, and each having a light filter 5 interposed between the discharge and the fluorescent signs. Each plate can be covered on its rear side facing the discharge by a plate of blue glass pervious to ultra-violet light, for example cobalt glass. In addition the plates 4 and/or the tube 1 can be made of coloured glass, for example yellow in the case of signs fluorescing yellow.
