715,810. Motor vehicle steering arrangements. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AKT.-GES. July 17, 1950 [April 6, 1949], No. 17848/50. Class 79(5) In a steering mechanism for independently sprung wheels supported by laterally inclined king pins the steering movement is transmitted to the wheels by main rotatable spindles, lying in the same plane as the king pins, and a divided track rod, the longer middle section of which is linked to projecting arms on the spindles and the end sections of which link the or other projecting arms on the spindles to steering arms, one of the spindles forming the driven shaft of the steering gear. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the steerable wheels 1, 2 are suspended by wishbone linkages 3, 4 and have their kingpins 5, 5<SP>1</SP> inclined for camber. The wheels are steered by means of a handwheel 7 and a bevel steering gear, the output shaft 8 of which is inclined parallel to the shaft 5 and forms one of the spindles and carries the arms 10, 13. The arm 10 is connected to the wheel 2 by one of the end sections 11 and the steering arm 15, and the arm 13 is connected to the wheel 1 by the middle section 12, the arm 13<SP>1</SP> on the other spindle 8<SP>1</SP> which also carries the arm 10<SP>1</SP> being connected by the other end section 11<SP>1</SP> to the steering arm 15<SP>1</SP> of the wheel 1. The track rod section 12 may be disposed within the front cross frame member M. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the track rod is formed of the sections 22, 23, 22<SP>1</SP> controlled through the arm 21 on the spindle 20, which forms the driven shaft of the steering gear, is arranged parallel to the cambered kingpin 24. The track rod is supported bv the arm 21<SP>1</SP> on the other spindle 20<SP>1</SP>, which is arranged parallel to the cambered king pin 24<SP>1</SP>.
