Abstract

The invention comprises substituted piperazines of the formula <FORM:0715236/IV (b)/1> where R is an alkyl, aralkyl, monocyclic aryl, carbalkoxy, dialkylcarbamyl or heterocyclic radical (the last-named attached at its <FORM:0715236/IV (b)/2> grouping), R1 is hydrogen or alkyl, R2 is alkyl, monocyclic aryl or methylenedioxyaryl, and Y1 and Y2 are hydrogen or methyl. These are made by treating the corresponding 4-amino compounds with aldehydes or ketones R1-CO-R2. The reaction is preferably carried out at 60-100 DEG C. in an inert solvent such as a lower alcohol. Examples show the production of the following substituted piperazines: 1 - carbethoxy - 4 - benzalamino, 4 - (p - methoxybenzalamino) and 4 - (p - dimethylaminobenzalamino); 1 - diethylcarbamyl - 4 - (p - methoxybenzalamino), 4 - piperonalamino, 4 - (o - or p - chlorobenzalamino), 4-(p - dimethylaminobenzalamino) and 4 - (p-acetamidobenzalamino); 1 - methyl - 4 - (p-dimethylaminobenzalamino) and 4 - (p-acetamidobenzalamino); 1 - benzyl - 4 - piperonalamino and 4 - (p - dimethylaminobenzalamino); 1 - (p - chlorophenyl) - 4 - piperonalamino, 4 - (methyl - propylideneamino) and 4-(ethyl - benzalamino); 1 - (2 - pyridyl) - 4-benzalamino, 4 - piperonalamino, 4 - (p - isopropylbenzalamino) and 4 - (p - acetamidobenzalamino); 1 - (21 - pyrimidyl) - 4 - (p-methoxybenzalamino) and 4 - (p - chlorobenzalamino).
