Abstract

In the synthesis of hydrocarbons by gasification of solid carbonaceous fuels with steam to form a mixture containing CO and H2 which is catalytically converted, CO2 is removed from the exit gases of the conversion zone, indirectly heated to the temperature of gasification, e.g. 1150-1250 DEG F., and then fed to the gasification zone. Oxygen, equivalent, for example, to 10-15 per cent by volume of the CO2, may also be fed and is preferably preheated with the CO2 and steam to the gasification temperature. CO2 may also be removed from the synthesis gas prior to feeding said gas to the catalytic conversion zone, this CO2 also being preheated and fed to the gasification zone. Part of the exit gases from the conversion zone may be recycled after scrubbing out the CO2.
