Abstract
710,815. Electroplating. LANGBEINPFANHAUSER WERKE AKT.-GES. May 15, 1952, [May 15, 1951; April 28, 1952.] No. 12287/52. Class 41. [Also in Group XI] A wire or strip of iron, brass, copper or other metal after plating with another metal e.g. tin is heated by passage of electric current therethrough to a temperature just below the melting point of the deposit and is thereafter subjected to an additional intense heating in a considerably smaller zone and carried out by a different rapidly adjustable heating device to fuse the deposit. As shown the plated wire 1 is heated by alternating current passed therethrough between rollers 2, 4 connected to transformer 5 and fusion is effected by passage between radiant heaters 6, 7 heated by current from transformer 8. The coating is solidified by passage of the wire or strip through water bath 9. The heating device, such as 6, 7 may be displaced in the direction of the strip for adjustment on its distance from the strip may be varied. Infra-red radiation or inductive heating may be employed.
