Abstract
709,864. Sewing-machines. HESS, O. June 26. 1952 [June 27, 1591], No. 16094/52. Class 112 Frames; overedge stitching. In order to minimize the possibility of oil reaching the work and of fluff reaching the mechanism, the base of an overedge or similar sewing- machine, shown in plan, is formed with a partition 5 arranged parallel to the main shaft 3 to form a looper compartment 2 and a mechanism compartment which is divided by a transverse partition 7 into two parts 1a, 1b; the partition 5 provides bearings for the shaft 12 of the upper looper, lying in the compartment 1b, and the shaft 13 of the lower looper, lying in the compartment 1a, and the main shaft 3 has a bearing in the partition 7. The main shaft 3 carries a disc crank 15 which rocks the' shaft 12 by means of a pitman 17, and the shaft 13 is actuated from the shaft 12 by connections 19 passing through an opening in the partition 7.
