Abstract
709,789. Retractive switches; switches held set and freed mechanically. HOLLINS, J. R. May 29, 1952 [July 12, 1851], No. 13691/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXVIII] A switch for a direction signalling system on motor vehicles (see Group XXXVIII) comprises a base 15 carrying terminals 11, 12, 13, 14 and 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP>, as shown diagrammatically in the Figure. A centrally disposed operating lever 40 is pivoted at 44 and has two abutments 41, 41<SP>1</SP> against which spring-loaded sliding members 45, 45<SP>1</SP> press. These sliding members carry contact strips 46 and 46<SP>1</SP> aligned respectively with terminals 11, 12 and 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> and contact strips 47, 47<SP>1</SP> aligned respectively with terminals 13, 14 and 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP>. Thus, swinging lever 40 to the left connects terminals 11 to 12 and 13 to 14, while righthand movement connects terminals 11<SP>1</SP> to 12<SP>1</SP> and 13<SP>1</SP> to 14<SP>1</SP>. A second lever 55 is also provided and is operated by pulling on the finger hook 52 when cam surfaces 53, 53<SP>1</SP> engage corresponding surfaces 43, 43<SP>1</SP> on the slides 45, 45<SP>1</SP> and cause both slides to move outward simultaneously.
