Abstract

708,623. Unit air heaters. SMITH, W. H. Oct. 26, 1951 [July 28, 1950; Feb. 7, 1951], Nos. 18958/50 and 3030/51. Class 137 A unit air heater consists of a tubular hot water or steam radiator 2 mounted inside a casing 7 having bottom air inlets 18 and 19 and a top air outlet 15. A fan 17 driven by a motor 27 is positioned immediately inside the inlet 18. In operation under normal conditions air flows from the room by convection through inlet 19 and up through the casing, being deflected in a sinuous path over the radiator tubes by baffles 20 and 21, and discharges through the outlet 15. Should the air inlet temperature fall below a predetermined level, a thermostat 24 starts the fan motor to increase the rate of air flow through the casing until the room temperature returns to normal.
