Abstract
708,377. Spools for ink ribbons. VICTOR ADDING MACHINE CO. Feb. 13, 1952 [Sept. 25, 1951], No. 3817/52. Class 100 (4) A spool for an ink ribbon for use in a typewriter, adding machine or the like comprises a pair of circular discs 10, 11 and a hub 12 formed of legs 14 staked to the disc 10 and providing an axial anchor slot 22, the disc 11 being formed with a radial slot 48 wider than the slot 22 and in alignment with it. The tape 52 has an anchorage 54 at the end adapted to be passed through the slot 48 to a position inside the hub, the ribbon 52 passing out through the slot 22 which is narrower than the anchorage 54. The spool is mounted on a sleeve 42 secured to a driving ratchet wheel on the machine. The sleeve 42 is slotted at 40 to receive a notched locking lever 34 pivoted at 36 to the disc 11 and serving to retain the spool in place on the sleeve. The lever has a projection 50 adapted to snap into the notch 48 in the retaining position. The sleeve 42 is supported on a spindle 44. The anchorage shown in Fig. 3 comprises a triangular core 56 round which the ribbon end is passed and a clip 58 clamping the ribbon against the core. In a modification, the core and clip are cylindrical. In another form, the anchorage is made by rolling up the end of the ribbon, with or without a backing strip, and sticking it with an adhesive. In the form of Fig. 7 the ribbon 52 is folded with a short length of metal 68 to form an anchorage.
