Abstract
707,191. Water-leak detectors. DESPIEGELAERE, R. E. A. April 25, 1952 [April 25, 1951], No. 10535/52. , Class 40 (4) [Also in Group XXXVIII] Fluid leaks are detected by means of a microphone 1 and an amplifier 4 responsive to a particular band of frequencies. For water leaks the band extends from 2,000 to 4,500 cycles per sec. The vibrations are fed by a probe 2, a diaphragm 16, a passage 18 and a transverse channel 19 to an electro-dynamic transducer 25. A resonant chamber 20 may be adjusted by means of a winged bolt 22 to tune the air cavity to the frequency to be detected. The casing enclosing the microphone and the probe is acoustically insulated. The amplifier, Figs. 1, 3, includes four amplifying valves 28, 19, 30, 31 and three inter-stage band-pass filters 33, 34, 35. The output transformer 37 is connected to headphones through a filter 41 and to' a bridge rectifier 38. The rectified output is amplified by a valve 39 to operate a meter 5. The rectified output is also fed back to valve 31 to damp the meter 3. A voltmeter 8 may be connected to either of the batteries by means of a switch 7. A rheostat 10 serves as a volume control. Figs. 4a, 4b, 4c (not shown) illustrate the amplifier circuit in greater detail.
