Abstract

707,003. Copy-turning. ISLER, F. Oct. 2, 1951 [Oct. 5, 1950], No. 22883/51. Class 83 (3) A turning and boring mill for producing non- circular work such as piston rings, wherein the work is rotatably mounted on a sliding carriage movable relative to a cutting tool against the action of a return spring, is characterized in that the means for moving the carriage comprises a shaft supported by the carriage and having a face-plate for the work at one end, a cam mounted on the shaft, a rocker arm on the carriage engaging the cam and an abutment on the machine against which the arm is pressed by the return spring. The machine has a 'tool-head 21, Fig. 4, which carries tool-bars 4 for simultaneously operating on the inside and outside of the cast pot 1, and further tools 27 which may be brought around to part-off finished rings. The tool-head is arranged on slides for vertical and horizontal feed movement. The work-table 3 is carried by a vertical spindle 10 mounted in a horizontal slide 7, Fig. 1. The spindle is-driven by bevel gearing 8, 9, from a splined shaft 6 which allows the spindle to move transversely with the slide 7 without breaking the drive. A cam 11 is secured to the spindle intermediate its ends for transmitting the copying movement to the work spindle. The cam bears against a roller 14a, Fig. 2, on a lever 14 pivoted to the slide 7 at 15. The back of the lever 14b bears against an adjustable fulcrum-roller 18 on a slide 17 on the machine frame. The slide is maintained with the cam, the lever, and the abutment in contact by an adjustable compression spring 12.
