Abstract
707,001. Centrifugal machines. IMPE, R. VAN. Aug. 3, 1951 [Aug. 8, 1950; Dec. 4, 1950], No. 18428/51. Class 23 [Also in Group VIII] A spin-drying drum 7 rotates within a cylindrical receiver 5 mounted in a tank 1 which also contains a washing compartment 2 (see Group VIII). The drum 7 may be shaped as shown to avoid excessive aperturing of its wall and provided with a number of peripheral rows of apertures 9 coinciding with the larger diameter parts of the wall. The drum 7 has a flanged circular ring 14 which may be connected to a plate 13 by a ring 15 of resilient material in order to permit very slight tilting due to an unbalanced load of linen, so that harmful stresses are not transmitted to a driving shaft 16. The plate 13 is fixed to the shaft 16 which is driven through a belt 38 and pulleys 37, 39, by an electric motor 25. A single cover 53 closes the washing and drying compartments simultaneously, but the drum 7 has a separate cover 11 with a central aperture 12. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the drum has a rigid base and is mounted directly on the spindle of the electric motor which is resiliently mounted on springs.
